What Is Water-Resistant Fabric?
Water-resistant fabric is standard polyester sportswear fabric that has been treated with a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish or a light PU (Polyurethane) coating. Unlike waterproof fabric, which uses a continuous membrane to block all water, water-resistant fabric relies on a surface treatment that causes light precipitation to bead up and roll off before it can saturate the fibers.
There is no membrane involved, which means the fabric retains 100% of standard polyester's characteristics: it stretches, it wicks moisture, it breathes at 8,000–12,000 MVTR, and it accepts full sublimation printing. The DWR treatment is applied either before or after sublimation (we use sublimation-compatible DWR that survives 200°C heat), giving you both all-over custom color graphics AND water shedding on the same garment.
Every batch is tested for DWR contact angle, spray test rating (AATCC 22), and wash durability. We guarantee a minimum of 20 wash cycles before DWR performance drops below acceptable thresholds — significantly better than the 3–5 cycle cheap treatments common in the market.

Branding Water-Resistant Garments
This is where water-resistant fabric dominates — full sublimation is the primary method.
Full Sublimation
The defining advantage. Since there's no membrane, water-resistant fabric accepts full-color, edge-to-edge, all-over sublimation exactly like standard polyester. We use sublimation-compatible DWR that survives the 200°C heat press, so you get both unlimited graphics AND water shedding. Ideal for team jackets, golf rain shirts, and branded outerwear where visual impact equals function.
Screen Printing
Standard plastisol or water-based screen printing works perfectly on water-resistant fabric. No temperature restrictions since there's no membrane. Best for simple spot-color logos (1–6 colors) on chest, back, or sleeves where the full sublimation setup cost isn't justified. Produces opaque, durable results on any DWR-treated fabric.
Embroidery
No membrane means no risk of puncturing a waterproof barrier — embroidery is fully compatible with water-resistant fabric. Needle holes do slightly compromise local DWR performance at the stitch points, but this is negligible for most applications. Premium look for chest crests, sleeve logos, and collar marks on coach jackets and team outerwear.
Specify Your Water-Resistant Fabric
The treatment level determines protection; the base fabric determines everything else.
Treatment Type
DWR only (lightest, most breathable), light PU coating (more protection, slightly stiffer), or both combined.
DWR Chemistry
C6-fluorocarbon (standard, 20–30 wash durability) or enhanced C6 (30–40 wash, higher cost). We never use C8 or cheap silicone.
Base Fabric
Standard polyester jersey, interlock, pique, taffeta, or microfiber — the DWR goes on top of your preferred base knit.
Sublimation Timing
DWR applied after sublimation (maximum DWR performance) or sublimation-compatible DWR applied before (single-pass production).
GSM & Stretch
Standard GSM targets for your garment type plus 2-way or 4-way stretch if the outer layer needs to move with the body.
Weave Tightness
Tighter weaves (high thread count) shed water more effectively under the same DWR treatment — specify for maximum performance.
