What Is Polyester Sportswear Fabric?

Polyester sportswear fabric is a synthetic textile engineered specifically for athletic and activewear applications. Made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fibers, it offers exceptional durability, shape retention, and resistance to shrinking and wrinkling.

"Our polyester fabrics are optimized for sublimation printing — ensuring vibrant, permanent colors that withstand 50+ wash cycles and intense athletic use."

Our range includes 100% polyester, polyester-spandex blends (92/8, 88/12, 85/15), and multiple knit constructions — each tailored for specific sportswear categories from compression wear to team uniforms.

Every roll is tested for colorfastness, pilling resistance, tear strength, and shrinkage before it reaches your production line.

Engineered for Athletes

Every property is tested and verified to meet international sportswear standards.

Moisture Wicking

Pulls sweat from skin to fabric surface for rapid evaporation during activity.

Breathable

Air permeability ≥180 mm/s allows heat to escape during intense workouts.

Lightweight

Low-density fibers reduce garment weight without compromising coverage.

Shape Retention

Resists stretching, shrinking, and pilling after 50+ wash cycles.

Color Fastness

Grade 4–5 (ISO 105-C06) ensures vibrant colors wash after wash.

Quick Dry

Dries 2× faster than cotton — ideal for multi-session training days.

UV Resistance

UPF 30–50+ rating protects skin from harmful ultraviolet exposure.

Honest Assessment

Advantages
  • Exceptional durability — lasts 2–3× longer than cotton in athletic use
  • Excellent moisture-wicking keeps athletes dry and comfortable
  • Wrinkle-free and maintains shape without ironing
  • Perfect for sublimation — unlimited color, zero fading
  • Lightweight yet strong, ideal for layering systems
  • Resistant to mold, mildew, and chemical damage
  • Cost-effective at scale — lower per-unit than natural fibers
  • Quick production turnaround with consistent quality
Disadvantages
  • Less breathable than natural fibers like cotton or linen
  • Can retain odors if not treated with antimicrobial finish
  • Prone to static buildup in dry conditions
  • Not biodegradable — environmental concerns at end of life
  • Can feel less soft against skin versus cotton blends
  • Melts at high temperatures — requires careful heat pressing
Our mitigation: We apply antimicrobial and anti-static finishes at the mill stage to address the most common polyester concerns.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — polyester is the most widely used fabric in sportswear globally. Its moisture-wicking, quick-dry, durability, and sublimation compatibility make it the top choice for team uniforms, training gear, and activewear. When blended with spandex, it provides excellent stretch and recovery.
Absolutely. We provide free A4-size fabric swatches (up to 3 options) shipped via DHL/FedEx at no charge. For sublimation test prints, we can print your design on a sample swatch so you can evaluate color accuracy and feel before committing.
92/8 has 8% spandex — suitable for standard team uniforms with moderate stretch. 88/12 has 12% spandex — significantly more stretch and recovery, ideal for compression wear, cycling kits, and form-fitting garments. Higher spandex = more stretch but slightly higher cost.
Yes. We offer rPET (recycled polyester) made from post-consumer plastic bottles. It performs identically to virgin polyester and is GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certified. Minimum order for rPET is 1,000 pcs.
Sublimation is our #1 recommendation. Full all-over printing, unlimited colors, player names/numbers in the same process, and the print becomes part of the fabric — never cracks, peels, or fades. Most cost-effective for multi-color designs at 50+ pieces.
Yes. For solid-color dyed fabrics, we match any Pantone TPX or TCX reference with ΔE < 1.0 accuracy. For sublimation, colors print from CMYK — we provide a digital proof for approval. Sublimation on polyester achieves the most accurate color reproduction of any method.
Our fabrics are tested against OEKO-TEX Standard 100, ISO 9001:2015, and can be certified to GRS (recycled), bluesign®, or REACH standards on request. Test reports for colorfastness, pilling, tear strength, and shrinkage are available for every production lot.
