Polar fleece is a double-sided brushed polyester knit fabric engineered for maximum warmth-to-weight ratio. The construction creates a dense, uniform pile on both sides — thousands of tiny polyester fibers standing upright that trap body heat in microscopic air pockets. The result is a fabric that provides roughly 10× the insulation of cotton at the same weight while weighing a fraction of equivalent wool.

Best Methods for Polar Fleece
Fleece's 100% polyester composition makes it exceptionally decoration-friendly — but the brushed pile surface requires technique adjustments.

Sublimation (All-Over Print)
The #1 choice for polar fleece — 100% polyester accepts sublimation dye perfectly. The brushed pile creates a unique visual effect: colors appear slightly softer and more muted compared to smooth fabrics, giving sublimation prints a premium, matte-finish quality that many brands prefer over the glossy look on flat polyester. Fully permanent, fade-proof, and wash-proof.

Screen Printing
Works well for bold, simple designs on fleece — sponsor logos, block text, and large chest/back prints. The brushed pile requires a thicker ink deposit (plastisol recommended over water-based) to bridge the textured surface. Fine detail and small text can be inconsistent on deep-pile fleece. Best for high-volume, low-complexity logo placement.

Embroidery
Best on heavyweight fleece (300+ GSM) where the dense structure provides adequate stabilization. Standard and micro fleece can be too plush for clean embroidery — stitches may sink into the pile. We use a water-soluble topping film during embroidery that prevents stitches from disappearing into the fleece, then dissolves in the first wash. Premium result on heavy fleece.
