70 GSM Sportswear Fabric
The featherlight workhorse of performance apparel. At just 70 grams per square meter, it delivers full coverage with near-zero weight — the gold standard for packable shells, sublimation base layers, and inner linings shipped to 40+ countries.
What Is 70 GSM Fabric?
70 GSM fabric is an ultra-lightweight textile weighing just 70 grams per square meter — roughly the weight of a standard office sheet of paper multiplied by three. In sportswear, it represents the entry point of performance-weight fabrics, bridging the gap between sheer linings and functional midweights.
The vast majority of 70 GSM sportswear fabric is 100% polyester, chosen for its sublimation compatibility, low cost, and adequate strength at this weight. Nylon taffeta at 70 GSM is also available for windbreaker shells and packable jackets where higher tear strength is needed.
Every meter we produce is tested for GSM accuracy (±3%), colorfastness (Grade 4+), shrinkage (<2%), and print transfer quality before leaving our Sialkot facility.

What Comes in 70 GSM?
Not all 70 GSM fabrics behave the same. Construction method dramatically changes performance at this weight.
Polyester Plain Weave
The most common 70 GSM construction. Tight plain weave offers a smooth surface ideal for sublimation printing. Used for base layers, running vests, and inner linings.
Nylon Taffeta
70 GSM nylon taffeta has a crisp, rustling hand with significantly higher tear strength than polyester. The default choice for packable windbreaker shells and jacket linings.
Mesh (Knit)
Open-structure knit mesh at 70 GSM provides maximum airflow. Used for basketball jerseys, training vests, and ventilation panels in heavier garments.
Interlock Knit
Double-knit interlock at 70 GSM offers a softer, slightly thicker hand with natural stretch. Popular for lightweight training t-shirts and lifestyle activewear.
Poly-Spandex Knit
92/8 or 95/5 poly-spandex blends at 70 GSM add 15–25% stretch for compression base layers, yoga tops, and form-fitting athletic wear.
DWR-Treated Shell
Standard 70 GSM polyester or nylon with a durable water repellent finish applied post-weave. Water beads and rolls off — perfect for lightweight rain layers.

What 70 GSM Does Best
Ultra-lightweight isn't a limitation — it's a specific set of performance advantages.
Near-Zero Weight
Garments feel almost nonexistent on the body — the closest thing to wearing nothing while still being clothed.
Extreme Packability
A 70 GSM jacket compresses into a fist-sized ball — ideal for travel, trail running, and emergency carry.
Sublimation Optimized
Thin profile allows dye to fully penetrate fibers — producing the most vibrant edge-to-edge prints possible.
Breathability
Minimal fabric mass means air flows freely through the garment — excellent for heat dissipation in warm conditions.
Fast Drying
With so little fabric to hold moisture, 70 GSM dries in minutes — not tens of minutes.
Cost Efficient
Lowest GSM means lowest fabric cost per meter — ideal for high-volume promotional and entry-level products.
Perfect Lining
The standard weight for inner linings in jackets, hoodies, and bags — adds minimal bulk while protecting the shell.
Deep Color Saturation
Thin fibers absorb dye intensely — solid colors appear richer and more vivid than on heavier weights.
Built For These Products
70 GSM excels in lightweight, high-breathability, and sublimation-heavy product categories.

Honest Assessment
- Lightest functional sportswear weight — garments feel weightless
- Extremely packable — compresses to pocket-sized for travel
- Best sublimation transfer quality due to thin fiber penetration
- Maximum breathability — ideal for hot-weather and high-intensity sports
- Fastest drying time of any sportswear weight
- Lowest cost per meter — great for high-volume orders
- Deep, rich solid colors due to thin-fiber dye absorption
- Standard lining weight — pairs well with all heavier shells
- Semi-sheer in white and light colors — may show skin or undergarments
- Lower durability — not suited for high-abrasion or contact sports
- Minimal warmth — provides almost no thermal insulation
- Can feel clingy or "flimsy" to consumers expecting heavier fabrics
- More prone to snags and pulls during wear and washing
- Limited structure — garments don't hold shape on their own
Best Printing Methods for 70 GSM
The thin profile of 70 GSM creates both opportunities and constraints for printing — here's what works best.

Sublimation Printing
The undisputed champion for 70 GSM polyester. Thin fibers allow complete dye penetration — no hand feel, no cracking, no fading. Full-edge-to-edge photographic prints with virtually unlimited colors.

Screen Printing
Works well for simple logos and text (1–3 colors) on 70 GSM. Requires lighter ink deposits to avoid stiffening the fabric. Water-based inks recommended over plastisol to maintain the soft hand.

Heat Transfer Vinyl
PU vinyl transfers work on 70 GSM but require careful temperature control — too hot and you'll melt through. Best for small logos, player names, and numbers. Ultra-thin vinyl films (60–80 micron) recommended.
Make It Yours
Despite its light weight, 70 GSM fabric accepts a wide range of treatments and modifications.
Weave Construction
Plain weave, taffeta, mesh, interlock, or single jersey — each changes the fabric's character completely.
Color & Dye Method
Piece-dyed solids, yarn-dyed patterns, or sublimation-ready white — over 2,000 Pantone matches available.
DWR Treatment
Post-dye durable water repellent finish for packable shells and rain layers.
Anti-Snag Finish
Resin treatment that tightens the surface and reduces pull susceptibility by 60%.
Wicking Finish
Hydrophilic treatment that accelerates moisture spread and evaporation beyond the fabric's natural wicking.
UV Protection
UPF 30+ or UPF 50+ finish for outdoor running and cycling base layers.
